Chapter 9: The Gavel of Justice

Judge Evelyn Sterling brought her wooden gavel down with a thunderous crack that silenced the murmuring courtroom.
"In thirty-five years on the bench, I have rarely witnessed such grotesque moral depravity," Judge Sterling stated, her voice trembling with righteous indignation. "To intentionally terrorize a defenseless child for financial leverage is an act of unmitigated cruelty."
The judge looked down at the court clerk. "I am issuing an immediate summary dismissal of all petitions filed by Edmund Thorne. Furthermore, I am forwarding the entire evidentiary docket to the District Attorney and the Department of Justice for immediate indictment on charges of felony child abuse, electronic wiretapping, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, and corporate fraud."
Federal marshals stepped forward, clicking stainless-steel handcuffs around Edmund’s wrists.
As they pulled Edmund to his feet, the disgraced trustee looked at Gabriel, his eyes wild with desperate pleading. "Gabriel... please! We’re brothers! We carry the same blood!"

Gabriel stood tall, his gaze unwavering. "Blood makes you related, Edmund. Loyalty, protection, and love make you family. You forfeited that right the moment you made my daughter cry."
Without looking back, Gabriel watched the marshals lead Edmund through the holding cell doors, permanently ending the shadow of betrayal that had hung over the Thorne legacy.
