Chapter 8: The Exposure of Malice

The atmosphere in Courtroom 402 transformed from a routine custody dispute into a high-stakes criminal tribunal.

Edmund’s face lost all its color as Gabriel took his place at the defense table.

"Mr. Thorne," Judge Sterling said, her eyes narrowing with intense scrutiny. "Explain this intrusion immediately."

Marcus Vance stepped forward, placing a sealed federal evidence box onto the clerk's desk. "Your Honor, we present forensic audio recordings, bank records, and sworn digital affidavits seized under federal warrant early this morning."

Marcus activated the courtroom’s digital display system.

Playing through the speakers was not the fabricated audio Edmund had prepared, but an unedited recording captured from Edmund’s own laptop—recorded via the very same encrypted proxy he had used to monitor the nursery.

Edmund’s voice played with crystal-clear clarity:

“Make sure the device clicks every night at nine. Keep the kid terrified. Once she starts screaming whenever Gabriel enters the room, Vance will sign the psychological report, and the sixty-million-dollar trust will be under my sole signature within thirty days.”

A collective gasp swept through the gallery. Several reporters scrambled to exit the courtroom to file breaking news alerts.

Dr. Jonathan Vance attempted to stand up and slip out through the rear exit, but two federal marshals immediately blocked the doorway, arresting him on the spot for custodial fraud, perjury, and child endangerment.

Edmund sat frozen at the table, his hands trembling violently on the polished wood.

Gabriel turned and looked at his half-brother. There was no hatred or gloating in Gabriel’s eyes—only a profound, sorrowful disgust for a man who had sold his soul for paper and numbers.

"You used an innocent four-year-old child as a pawn in your greed, Edmund," Gabriel said softly, his words cutting deeper than any shouting match. "You will never see her again."
