Chapter 4: Stripping Away the Shadows

Julian brought Mia back to the penthouse late the following evening. The little girl slept peacefully against his shoulder, exhausted from the hospital tests and the sensory overload of the past twenty-four hours.
Waiting in the foyer was Martha, the elderly housekeeper who had been dismissed by Evelyn two months prior under fabricated charges of theft. Julian had personally called her that morning, apologized with profound humility, and reinstated her with full authority over the household staff.
"Mr. Vance," Martha whispered through tears as she saw the frail child in his arms. "My poor sweet baby..."
"She’s home, Martha," Julian said softly. "And things are going to change."

Before putting Mia to bed in the master bedroom—refusing to leave her alone in the nursery down the hall—Julian walked through the penthouse. Every portrait of Evelyn, every piece of designer furniture she had brought, every trace of her presence was systematically packed into crates by professional movers to be donated or discarded.
Julian personally walked into the kitchen, picked up the stainless-steel bowl that had sat on the counter, and carried it down to the basement incinerator chute. As the metal clanged into the abyss, Julian made a silent vow. The cold, sterile monument to wealth that his penthouse had become would no longer dictate their lives. He would build a home rooted in warmth, safety, and truth.
