Chapter 12: Blossoms in the Garden

By spring, the meadows around the house erupted into vibrant blooms of purple lupines and yellow daffodils. Under Dr. Bennett’s guidance, Julian enrolled Mia in a small, nature-based cooperative preschool in the neighboring village.
The first morning of school, Mia stood by the garden gate of the preschool, her small fingers tightly gripping Julian’s hand. She watched a group of children planting sunflower seeds in wooden garden boxes, her old apprehension lingering at the edge of her gaze.
Julian knelt down to her eye level, smoothing her hair. "You are safe, Mia. Daddy is going to be sitting right over there on the garden bench reading a book. Whenever you turn around, you will see me."
Mia looked into his steady, loving eyes. "You won’t leave?"
"Never," Julian promised, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "Not for a single second."

Reassured by his unwavering presence, Mia took a deep breath, let go of his hand, and walked across the grass toward the other children. When a little girl with pigtails offered her a small watering can, Mia took it with a gentle smile and began pouring water over the fresh soil.
Sitting on the wooden bench under the morning sun, Julian watched his daughter blossom, knowing that love had conquered fear.
