Chapter 14: Corporate Plaza Morning

The morning sun hit the gleaming glass facade of the downtown corporate plaza, casting long, sharp reflections across the bustling sidewalk. For years, this towering monument of concrete and steel had represented an impenetrable fortress of wealth, power, and untouchable corruption where Marcus Sterling and his board of directors ruled from their polished corner suites. Today, however, the plaza looked entirely different. Federal law enforcement vehicles with flashing red and blue lights formed a blockade along the curb, their sirens silenced but their presence undeniable. A crowd of morning commuters and reporters had gathered behind police tape, cameras flashing like summer lightning as federal marshals in heavy tactical gear escorted handcuffed men out of the revolving glass doors.

I stood across the street near the base of a stone planter, wearing my tailored navy blue suit, my hands shoved deep into my pockets as I watched the downfall of my enemies. The digital archive I had uploaded the previous night had done its work with devastating precision. By dawn, investigative reports were broadcasting live across national news networks, detailing years of corporate fraud, hostile takeover schemes, and the illegal surveillance operations directed against my family. The public glamour that had shielded Sterling for decades was stripped away in minutes, exposing the rot underneath.

My phone buzzed against my thigh. It was a secure text message from the federal prosecutor handling the case. All primary suspects in custody. Accounts frozen. Warrants executed.

I let out a quiet exhale, my shoulders dropping as the phantom weight of the past three years finally began to lift from my frame. The fight wasn't about defending a corporate empire anymore; it was about reclaiming our lives. Across the plaza, Marcus Sterling was led down the granite steps, his expensive suit wrinkled, his face pale and averted from the blinding glare of television cameras. He didn't look like an untouchable titan now. He looked like a frightened man who had finally run out of places to hide.

I turned away from the spectacle, pulling my collar up against the crisp morning breeze. My mission here was finished. The conspiracy that had threatened to tear my world apart had been dismantled in the cold light of day and the public record. It was time to leave the concrete canyons of the city behind and head back to where my real life—and my real family—was waiting for me.

As I walked toward my parked vehicle, the city noise seemed to fade into a dull hum. The shadows were gone for good, replaced by the clean, unobstructed light of a morning that belonged to us again.
