Chapter 14: Confrontation at the Boardroom

The glass doors of the Grandview Corporation headquarters slid open with a soft hiss, admitting us into a lobby of polished limestone and brushed steel that reeked of corporate intimidation. Security guards in tailored suits made a half-hearted move toward us before recognizing Arthur Vance walking firmly at our side, his federal identification badge catching the bright overhead lights. We didn't wait for an elevator escort; we took the private express lift straight to the thirty-fourth floor, where the mahogany-paneled boardroom awaited us behind heavy, soundproof doors.
When Julian pushed the doors open, the chatter around the long conference table died instantly. Eleanor sat at the head of the table, her blonde updo immaculately pinned, her brown dress pressed to perfection, and her fingers glittering with emerald rings. But the veneer of untouchable elegance had cracked. Her face was pale, and her eyes darted from Arthur to Julian before finally locking onto me standing in the doorway, the green jade pendant catching the light of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
"You have no business being here," Eleanor said, her voice dropping into a harsh, controlled whisper that echoed off the mahogany walls. She stood up slowly, her chair scraping against the floorboards. "This is a private corporate matter. Security should have stopped you at the street."

"Security was too busy reading the freeze orders issued by the state attorney general twenty minutes ago," Arthur replied smoothly, pulling out a chair and placing the leather folio squarely in the center of the polished wood table. He flipped it open, revealing the original trust documents bearing Margaret's authentic seal and Eleanor's unauthorized counter-signatures. "The game is over, Eleanor. The foundation is under receivership, and every hidden asset you transferred out of Margaret's estate is currently being audited by federal investigators."
Eleanor’s gaze swept across the room, searching the faces of the terrified board members who were frantically packing their leather portfolios and avoiding her eyes. She took a single, trembling step forward, her hand reaching out as if to brush away the documents, but stopped herself. The pride that had sustained her cruel grip on the family for decades finally fractured, leaving behind only the cold reality of a woman who had traded everything for a status built on sand. I stepped forward, my voice cutting through the heavy silence of the room. "You tried to erase me to protect your name," I said softly, meeting her panicked gaze without flinching. "But my grandmother's legacy belongs to the truth, and the truth cannot be locked away anymore."
