Chapter 13: Warrants and Removal

The heavy silence in the boardroom was broken by the sharp, metallic clink of approaching footsteps out in the corridor. Two uniformed federal marshals, accompanied by a district court bailiff holding a stack of official documents, walked past the open glass doors and stepped directly into the room. Ethan shrank back against his leather executive chair, his arrogant demeanor completely shattered, leaving behind only a terrified, cornered man realizing there was no legal loophole left to exploit. The lead marshal didn't even glance at Ethan or Margaret as he walked straight toward the table, his eyes fixed on me with professional respect. "Mrs. Miller-Vance," the marshal nodded formally, holding out a clipboard for my signature. "The asset seizure orders have been fully executed at the primary residence and all secondary corporate accounts. The premises are now under federal receivership."

"Do you know who my son is?" Margaret shrieked, lunging forward in a desperate attempt to block the marshals, her silk robe rustling frantically as she grabbed the lead officer's sleeve. "We are pillars of this community! You cannot touch us!" The marshal gently but firmly brushed her hand away, his expression entirely impassive. "Step back, ma'am, or you will be charged with obstructing federal law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties." Marcus stepped in smoothly, guiding Margaret away from the marshals with a polite yet immovable physical presence that left her with nowhere to turn. Ethan slumped entirely into his chair, his head in his hands, staring blankly at the polished wood as the reality of his criminal negligence finally sank in.

The bailiff stepped forward, holding out a pair of formal notice documents, serving them directly into Ethan’s trembling hands. "Ethan Vance, you are formally summoned to appear before the federal district magistrate tomorrow morning at nine o'clock to answer charges of wire fraud, forgery, and corporate asset stripping," the bailiff read aloud, his voice echoing authoritatively through the quiet room. I closed the lid of my silver suitcase, securing the clasps with two crisp, definitive clicks. Without sparing Ethan or Margaret another look, I turned on my heel and walked out of the boardroom, leaving the ruins of their stolen empire behind me in the dust.
