Chapter 10: The Penthouse Confrontation

The penthouse was suffocatingly quiet when I stepped through the private elevator doors that evening. The city lights glittered through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, casting long, sharp shadows across the white marble floors. I pulled off my pearl earrings, letting them drop onto the entryway table with a soft clatter. Before I could even turn toward the master hallway, the study door swung open, and Julian stepped out. His tuxedo was immaculate, his silver-streaked hair brushed to perfection, but his eyes were hard and cold as winter ice.

"Where have you been, Elena?" Julian asked, his voice smooth and dangerously low as he closed the distance between us. "The foundation board has been calling. And more importantly, my estate manager just informed me that federal marshals searched the lower utility room at the country house today. Care to explain why?"

I didn't flinch. I stood tall, squaring my shoulders as I looked straight into the face of the man who had stolen my child and lied to the world for a decade. "You mean the room where you locked our daughter away for seven years?" I asked, my voice steady, carrying an edge of iron he had never heard from me before. "The search warrant was executed legally, Julian. The federal agents found her toys. They found the mattress. They found your security cameras."

Julian’s expression didn't shatter; instead, it curdled into a mask of pure, unadulterated contempt. He stepped closer, invading my personal space with the calculated intimidation he used in boardrooms to break his rivals. "You foolish, ungrateful woman," he hissed, his composure cracking just enough to reveal the monster underneath. "You think a few federal agents and some forged fairy tales are going to bring me down? I built this foundation. I own the judges, the media, and half the politicians in this state. If you think you can walk out of here and ruin my reputation, you will find yourself locked in a psychiatric ward before the night is over."

"Your reputation died the moment you stole my baby from her hospital crib," I replied, my tone icy and unyielding as I met his fierce gaze without blinking. "The public is going to see the real Julian Vance tonight. Not the philanthropist. Not the icon. The criminal."

For a second, a flash of genuine panic crossed his eyes, quickly masked by a arrogant smirk. He checked his gold wristwatch, smoothing his jacket lapel. "I have a charity gala to run, Elena. Enjoy your little rebellion while you can. Because by midnight, you won't exist."

He turned on his heel and strode toward the private elevator, completely unaware that his private server had been copied, his offshore bank accounts exposed, and his career was already over.
