Chapter 5: The Closing Circle

"Arthur! Thank God you're here," Julian called out, hurrying up the drive past the stone wall, completely ignoring Rohan as if the boy were invisible to him. Julian was clutching a tablet computer against his chest like a shield, his expression a mixture of panic and disbelief. "You need to see what's being picked up online right now. The video from last night's garden party—someone leaked it."
My blood ran cold. I turned my head sharply back toward the stone wall, but Rohan was already gone. The space where he had been standing was empty, save for a single, unblemished white daisy resting on the gray stone.
"What are you talking about, Julian?" I asked, my voice dangerously quiet as I forced my attention back to my business partner.
"The video of Emily standing up," Julian said, his voice rising in agitation as he shoved the tablet into my hands. The screen was playing a grainy, high-definition cell phone recording taken from behind the boxwood hedge during the final moments of last night's party. It showed the exact second Emily's eyes had widened with awe, the golden sparks swirling around her shoes, and my own face contorted in raw, unfiltered shock. "It was posted to a local neighborhood forum at dawn. By eight o'clock, it had twenty thousand views. By ten, national news syndicates started calling the firm's PR office."
I stared down at the screen, watching my daughter's face light up with miraculous joy over and over again on the looping digital file. The public glamour of our foundation, the carefully curated image of a grieving philanthropist father managing a tragic reality—it was all unraveling in a matter of hours. The world was watching. And worse, they were coming.
"They're calling it a medical miracle," Julian continued, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. "Reporters are already gathered at the main gates down the road. They want interviews, medical charts, statements from you. Arthur, this could blow the foundation wide open—either as our greatest triumph or our absolute destruction."
I gripped the tablet so hard the casing groaned beneath my fingers. I looked past Julian, down the long, tree-lined drive toward the heavy iron gates where distant camera flashes were already beginning to flicker like summer lightning. Inside the house, upstairs in the sunlit sitting room, Emily was probably taking her first unassisted steps in three years, completely unaware that the sanctuary I had built to protect her had just been breached by the world.
"Call the security team," I said coldly, handing the tablet back to Julian with a finality that made him flinch. "Lock the front gates. No reporters, no cameras, no one gets in."

"And the boy?" Julian asked hesitantly, pausing as he registered the cold fury in my eyes. "The kid in the video?"
"Find out who he is," I whispered, turning my back on the gates and walking slowly toward the house, where my daughter was waiting. "Find out who he is, or God help me, I'll burn this entire estate to the ground before I let them take her away."
